free, because the printer does not work; he said that the scanner works all right. And it's the scanner I need. I got all the documents and disks, but when I tried to install the program from the disk MFL-Pro Suite, it asked for the serial number. I cannot find that serial number anywhere.
Internet says: "The serial number is located on the back of the unit on the rating plate."
I see only one plate, but I don't know if it is the rating plate. I entered the number on the plate into the serial number line, but it is too long - there is one letter too much.

One man gave me his Brother MFC-4820C printer free, cause the printer doesn't work; he said that the scanner works all right. I got all the documents and disks, but when I tried to install the program from the disk MFL-Pro Suite, it asked for the serial number. I cannot find the serial number anywhere.

Are you able to find a working serial number for my printer MFC-4820C? Thank you.
Or maybe I am the legal owner of that printer now and ask Brother for the serial?

Usually the ser# will indeed be on the plate with the model# info. I see a thread on google where people mentioned the serial number located under the paper tray. Worth a look. A Guy
